YouTube sensation Pentatonix embarked this summer on the biggest headlining tour they’ve ever done. As they bring their unique musical style around the country, joining them are Echosmith and Calum Scott.

Calum Scott

In 2015, Calum Scott was a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent, which he auditioned for right after his sister was rejected during her audition. He’s since become a successful pop star in the UK, and this makes his second tour of the USA that he’s been on.

His show was simple, the only music accompanying Calum was a keyboard player. You could tell there was a lot of emotion in his lyrics, that the audience certainly seemed to connect to.

Since having a Top-20 hit with “Cool Kids” in 2013, the siblings of Echosmith have been keeping busy. While they haven’t yet released a second album, they’ve released multiple EP’s, most recently Inside a Dream in September of 2017.

While the crowd really enjoyed their show, they went absolutely crazy at the end of their set, as they kicked into “Cool Kids.”

From winning the TV show “The Sing Off”, to being dropped by Sonys Epic Records and starting their own widely followed YouTube channel, Pentatonix (PTX) hit the stage to a well-deserved, thunderous applause.

Their show is mostly made up of cover songs, or medleys combining popular songs together. How does a band that is, essentially, a cover band, make it to a venue of this size? You have to be unique to catch that lightning in a bottle required, and their twist is that they’re an a capella group. Coming from Arlington, Texas vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola and Matt Sallee create amazing music using only their voices. Kevin is the only member that plays an instrument during the performance, but only very briefly does he do this. He does an amazing job playing an original song on the cello while beatboxing. Simply incredible to see!

As they sing and dance around the stage, the crowd can’t help but sing along. From Bruno Mars to Daft Punk, John Lennon to Ed Sheeran, Camilla Cabello to Queen, there’s music here that everybody knows and loves.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch them this summer, they will be back around for a Christmas show at Mohegan Sun in December!
