Massachusetts natives Staind brought their Break the Cycle 25th Anniversary tour through their home state on September 18, with a lineup of some of the best early 2000s rock acts we all remember singing along with any time we heard them. Hinder started off the night with their post-grunge hard rock set, ahead of alt-rock\/nu-metal group Hoobastank, who brought the crowd back with a setlist of their best-known hits. South African alt-metal veterans Seether took the stage next, with a non-stop string of hits across their catalogue. Staind finished off the night in spectacular fashion, with their biggest hits, from ballads to absolutely in-your-face songs, from across their 30-year career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HINDER\u200b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hinder kicked off the night with a 7-song set of their most known hits, as well as a couple of new tracks from their latest album Back to Life<\/em>. Frontman Marshall Dutton did a great job getting the crowd involved right out of the gate with their 2010 hit \u201cAll American Nightmare\u201d, and arguably one of the bands heaviest tunes. The Oklahoma natives played other chart-topping hits like \u201cLips of an Angel\u201d and \u201cGet Stoned\u201d that kept the crowd on their feet and singing along early on in the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOOBASTANK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hoobastank continued to keep up the pace, and even turned it up a little more, as they immediately captured the crowd with a high-energy performance from the first note of their set. Frontman Doug Robb made sure to interact with the crowd any chance he got, bringing everyone back with fan favorites like \u201cSame Direction\u201d, \u201cOut of Control\u201d, \u201cThe Reason\u201d, and ended their set with \u201cCrawling in the Dark\u201d, which was their first single from their breakout self-titled 2001 album, with the crowd singing those familiar lyrics right along with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEETHER<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Seether was the main supporting act before Staind took the stage, and definitely made it seem like the oversized guitar and bass stacks on stage were turned up to 11. The lights dimmed and their setlist began with \u201cIllusion\u201d off the band\u2019s latest album from 2024, The Surface Seems So Far<\/em>, before turning the clocks back to play all the songs from their earlier years and rise to success such as \u201cTruth\u201d, \u201cFake It\u201d, and closed their set strong with \u201cRemedy\u201d. Shaun Morgan\u2019s ability to weave soothing melodic vocals together with intense growls and aggressive screams really show an ability to put together a set of songs where you can\u2019t stand still and others where you sway in a sea of lighters (and cell phone lights) in the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STAIND<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the house lights went off, the crowd in Mansfield was presented with a giant countdown screen and a video montage of Staind throughout the years on stage, in the studio, and everything in-between. Largely comprised of songs for the Break the Cycle album\u2019s 25th anniversary, it was hard to find anyone sitting down if they didn\u2019t have to. Opening their set with \u201cOpen Your Eyes\u201d immediately made the crowd go from eager anticipation to flat-out excitement. The stage came alive with an incredible visual display on the stage screens, and the light show that accompanied it was breathtaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night was full of all the songs that shot Staind to the top in the early years with in-your-face head banging songs like \u201cTake It\u201d, \u201cFor You\u201d, and \u201cMudshovel\u201d, and the sing-a-long songs that had massive crowd participation with \u201cRight Here\u201d, \u201cSo Far Away\u201d, \u201cIt\u2019s Been Awhile\u201d, and \u201cOutside\u201d \u2013 during which frontman, Aaron Lewis, stepped away from the mic for the final chorus to listen to the sold-out hometown crowd finish the song \u2013 it gave me goosebumps to hear nearly 20,000 people sing those words, in unison, in key, and LOUDLY. That is clearly the Massachusetts crowd that the band expected to perform for, and a big welcome home to them. The middle of Staind\u2019s show took a step back for an emotional performance of \u201cSomething to Remind You\u201d with guitarist Mike Mushok and Aaron Lewis delivering a stripped down rendition of the song, while displaying pictures of musicians that have passed over the last decade or so (many of which they toured with and became close to) such as Wayne Static, Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, Sam Rivers, and ended with a short video of their original drummer, Jon Wysocki, who passed away in 2024 at age 53.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between the nostalgia of the songs going back close to 30 years and the fact that Staind sounded as great as ever for their hour and twenty-minute set, this was definitely an amazing show begin the Xfinity Center\u2019s final concert weekend of the season \u2013 a sold-out crowd for a high-energy show from start to finish. Rock is alive and well, and these 4 bands didn\u2019t leave a sliver of doubt in anyone\u2019s minds by the end of the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
