Judas Priest is wrapping up a short fall tour, with opening support coming from Mastodon. The tour isn’t hitting all the major cities they played last fall, and instead of playing in New England or even New York City, they decided to play on Long Island. With the closing of the Nassau Coliseum this summer, there’s no large indoor venues for them to play on Long Island. That brought them instead to The Paramount, a 1,500 capacity venue which they sold out two nights in a row.<\/p>\n

Mastodon<\/h3>\n

Mastodon was certainly a surprise pick to open for Judas Priest. They’re a band that I feel can, and probably has headlined their own shows at The Paramount. Their unique sludge metal sound seems like an odd paring with the classic metal sound of Priest. Mastodon sounded great, and while they certainly did have fans in there, some of the older Judas Priest fans did not “get” them.<\/p>\n
