Deftones and Gojira in Boston – May 13, 2022
Like so many other shows lately, the Gojira and Deftones tour was a few years in the making. Playing at Agganis Arena on Boston University’s campus, the duo made the perfect lineup for a Friday the 13th concert.
Gojira
After seeing them live a few times in the past, I think Gojira’s set that night was the best I have ever seen them. They were 100% on their game and sounding better than ever. They came out behind a big screen, and began their set with “Born for One Thing” off of 2021’s Fortitude, the French heavy metal acts’ 7th studio album. They played a total of 11 songs spanning their albums including a medley of “Love/Remembrance”.
They had a bludgeoning set, but in Gojira fashion. Their lyrics are very spiritual in nature and provide a great contrast to the heavy hitting music.
Deftones
Deftones were the next to take the stage, and the veteran group also put on one of the best shows I’ve ever seen from them. Their light show was fantastic, with an elevated cube ˆover the stage. With criss-crossed lasers jetting out into the arena. They only played 2 songs from their most recent release Ohms, “Genesis” and “Ohms”, but played more from their older albums, Diamond Eyes and White Pony. I highly doubt there were many complaints from the crowd over the song selection. Deftones put on an amazing show, and I’m already looking forward to the next time they come around.
