HIM &
Motionless in White
House of Blues Boston
December 10, 2014
The crowd bustled into the venue, rubbing their hands and blowing on them to gain feeling back in their fingers after having to wait for a long while in the cold drizzling rain outside. They eagerly found their perfect spot on the floor or on the balcony, excitedly chattering about what the evening had in store for them: Wounds, Motionless in White, and HIM.
Wounds
The mixed murmurs slowly melted into cheers as Irish punk rock band, Wounds, hit the stage. Not a moment was wasted as they kicked off their short yet sweet set with “The Pile,” “Trouble for the Sake of It,” and “No Future.” The crowd bobbed their heads, the energy within them started to pick up as they were intrigued by this new sound. After having announced quite a few times of their homeland, Ireland, several people from the crowd cheered very loudly. Wounds finished up their set with “Binge,” “Killing Spree,” and “Dead Dead Fucking Dead,” having the crowd chant along with them during the chorus. The band left the crowd feeling very warmed up for the next band to conquer the stage, Motionless in White.
Motionless in White
As soon as the lights dimmed, the girls in front had their bodies pressed against the barricade and began to let out shrieks of excitement as each band member from Motionless in White began to emerge from the darkness. When front man, Chris Motionless, arrived, they began their highly energetic set with “Everybody Sells Cocaine,” and “Synthetic Love.” Briefly the theme song for American Horror Story filled our ears before they continued their set with “America,” the live debut of “Contemptress,” “Break the Cycle,” and “Unstoppable.” Their incredible energy washed over the crowd as the fans head banged and sang along whole-heartedly. Motionless in White ended their epic setlist with a killer cover of Danzig’s “Mother,” their latest single, “Reincarnate,” “Dead as Fuck,” and “Devil’s Night.” As they left the stage, the crowd was ready for more of the sweet taste of metal. But the night was far from over, HIM still had to take the stage, and they surely ruled the night.
HIM
The enthusiastic conversations from the crowd came to a screeching halt as the venue was enveloped in darkness. The girls in front let out of their shrieks as each of the members walked onto the stage from the shadows. The Finnish love metal band started their set right off without a moment wasted with “The Sacrament,” “Razorblade Kiss,” “Pretending,” “Right Here in My Arms,” and “This Fortress of Tears.” As front man, Ville Valo, occasionally walked over to the girls, who had their arms reached out, lip-syncing or belting out the lyrics to their songs, “Your Sweet Six Six Six,” the beautifully epic cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game,” “Gone with the Sin,” and “Soul on Fire.” The sweet guitar riffs provided by Mikko Lindström, killer drum beats by Mika Karppinen, and the beautiful bass beats by Mikko Paananen all perfectly complemented their incredible setlist.
HIM was far from over, they were just getting warmed up as they continued their set with “Heartache Every Moment,” “Buried Alive By Love,” “Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly,” “The Kiss of Dawn,” and “In Joy and Sorrow.” Horns were in the air; the occasional arm sway to the rhythm of the songs and the ladies swooned over the beauty of Ville. Sadly enough, their time on stage was soon coming to an end as they played “Poison Girl,” “Killing Loneliness,” and “No Love.” They ended their amazing soothing set with “Join Me in Death,” “When Love and Death Embrace,” and their awesome cover of Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell.”
Overall, these three bands were a perfectly unique lineup, all having their own incredible energy. Be sure to check out each of the bands’ future tour dates, they put on shows you will not want to miss!
