Sepultura in Boston – March 18, 2022
Originally scheduled for April 2020 the all mighty Sepultura visited Boston’s Big Night Live on March 18th 2022. Sepultura (the Portuguese word for Grave), originally formed in 1984 in Brazil by brothers Max and Igor Cavelera, who eventually left the band respectively in 1996 and 2006. However, since the departure of Max the band hired Derrick Green to take the reins and he has been a burgeoning powerhouse of a front man since.
Since the club had a double header, the show started early and unfortunately I only got to catch the headliners clocking in a little over an hour, set. After being able to see Sepultura live only once before in 2017 this show was equally as good. Even with an injured foot, that didn’t set back Green at all from his performance. Bass player Paulo Jr. kept the groove going and had a smile on his face throughout the night. Guitar player Andreas Kisser displayed his awesome guitar skills, and newest member Eloy Casagrande who joined the band in 2011 was a beast on drums.
The set spanned their career with some attention to their newest release Quadra. They also played some fan favorites like “Refuse/Resist” and “Roots Bloody Roots.” The band has incredible chemistry and work well together. They are a band that I will always try to catch live when they come to town which isn’t very often.
