Vyntyge Skynyrd is a new tribute band out of Massachusetts paying tribute to, you guessed it, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I don’t consider myself a Skynyrd fan, but my friend Donnie plays guitar in the band, so I went out to support. I was surprised at just how many songs I knew!

As I said, this was their first gig, so they’re not perfect yet, but I definitely saw the seeds of a great tribute act, and I’ll be interested to see their improvement after they few more gigs. I took special notice to the solos when both guitar players harmonize, and they nailed the parts. The music is all there with this band, they just need to tighten up the “show” aspect a little bit, specifically with keeping it rolling between songs. But as they play out more and learn more songs, I’m sure they’re going to be awesome!

As the set rolled on, inevitably, people started calling out for “Freebird.” They saved it for the end, and this is obviously the true test of a Skynyrd tribute band. Fortunately, they pulled it off, doing a great rendition of the song!
