Steel Panther in Boston – November 23, 2024

As hard as it may be to believe, it’s been fifteen years since the spandex-clad Steel Panther burst onto the scene. They’re out now, celebrating the anniversary of their debut album, Feel the Steel. The band came to Boston, along with the hard rockin’ Stone Horses as support.

Stone Horses

The night started off with Stone Horses, from Maryland. Unlike the show’s headliners, there’s no gimmick going on here, just straight-forward rock and roll. The band had a great energy, and was a welcome start to the night.

Steel Panther

With big hair and tight spandex, Steel Panther took the stage like true rock legends. Frontman Michael Starr, guitarist Satchel, drummer Stix Zadinia, and relative newcomer, bassist Spyder, have an undeniable level of talent – their over-the-top style wouldn’t attract the size of fan base it does without the talent to back it up. As it’s the anniversary of Feel the Steel, the album was well represented, with staples like “Asian Hooker” and “Death to All But Metal,” but also tracks like “The Shocker,” which haven’t been played regularly in the last decade.

If you’re not familiar with Steel Panther, you should have a good idea by this point what their show is about. They take all the tropes of 80s hair metal, and crank it up to 11. They have the power to connect with the audience, while playing heavy riffs, performing high kicks, and singing songs like “It Won’t Suck Itself,” and “17 Girls in a Row.” In between many of the songs, the band banters with humorous stories and comedic bits that could carry a show on their own.

Fifteen years on, Steel Panther shows no signs of slowing down, with people of all ages having a great time, ending the show with the band’s classic, “Gloryhole.”
