Parachute
The Warehouse FTC
Fairfield, CT
July 28, 2016
Catching Parachute for a second time during their wide awake tour wasn’t as easy as you may assume. It required an almost 3 hour drive through Connecticut traffic to get to a little venue called The Warehouse FTC.
Brynn Elliot
Brynn Eliott opened up for Parachute again. She was much more talkative this time around. Brynn engaged the crowd by telling us a little bit about each song. We found out why she wrote it, what it was about or why she named it what it was named. There were some new songs including “Psycho, Crazy, Stupid Love”. That song was about a love so great it made you stupid, or crazy. Those were words used to describe an overwhelming love already, she wanted something more powerful, something more, psycho. That’s when the catchy love song was born.
Her performance was really solid. With her warm smile, she sang her heart out. Brynn went from keyboards to guitars with ease, sharing her quick stories along the way. Her band was enjoyable to watch. They really got into the music and even made the crowd laugh by wearing a unicorn mask.
Brynn seemed more mature this time around. Her voice sounded better and her stage presence was that of a veteran performer. Our last review stated that we looked forward to more from Brynn, and we still do!
Parachute
Our bar is set really high for a Parachute performance. Will and his band were great the last time, so we expected only the best. There were some differences from the April 1st (no jokes) show that we saw. The stage was a bit smaller, so some of the lights were lost. There was a barricade set up all around the stage, so Will could not jump down through the crowd. There was no bubble machine.(collective sigh).
What there was, was a an amazingly talented band, playing some great songs. The setlist was almost identical, starting with “Without You”. Between Will and Kit, and Kit’s saxophone there was always something to watch on stage. Will told an occasional joke or story to keep the crowd involved, but it wasn’t overdone.
This band has also mastered the ability to create feelings. Towards the end of the set they played “Always and Forever”. This time we was prepared for what the song was about, and we knew it wasn’t a true story, and still fought back tears. It was a great number, with just the trio on stage. Will, Kit and Johnny stood at the front of the stage, it felt even more intimate. Drawing more tears to our eyes.
Once the song was over, Will instantly changed the pace by telling us no more crying, he got us again! He jumped into, “Lonely With Me”, one of our favorite songs off the new album. He sings city names in the songs, and snuck in Fairfield, which made us giggle with delight.
The last song of the night was “Kiss Me Slowly”, and at the end of it everyone came forward for a bow. The crowd cheered, we screamed. We missed Will jumping into the crowd, but otherwise we had no complaints. We can’t wait for them to come around again, even if we have to drive a few hours to get there!
