Another New England Super Megafest Comic Con has come and gone! I have been attending this event on and off for years, and each year it grows more and more spectacular. The vendors are always out in full force, the cosplay costumes are amazing, and the guest celebrities are exciting. This year was no different.

The Super Megafest is held at the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough, MA. This year they seemed to have an extra enclosed tent attached to host some of the panels. I am not sure if this was something I missed in passed years, but it was great to have that extra area. It was much quieter and less chaotic. The vendor area can be so overwhelming, it was nice to have a little area that wasn’t. From the Nerd Magician to the Bill Diamond Puppeteer seminar and celebrity panels including Richard Dean Anderson, Ray Park, Meatloaf and the RKO Shadowcast performers, there was a little something for everyone to fill up the day with.
entertainmentoutletsupermegafest102216-9I did spend a large amount of time walking around the vendor floor. If there was something in the comic book, geek, fantasy realm that you wanted, this was the place. There were vendors upon vendors with licensed or homemade products. There was a vendor who had made Christmas stockings, one who sold nothing but Funko Pop toys and many more. I spent a lot of time checking out the booth for “The Crimson Throne”. They features great replica weapons from movies, games and lands far far away. The items were all high quality and very reasonably priced. After visiting the booth a couple of times, my friend purchased a Dark Link sword and shield, and hasn’t stopped raving about it since. The men running the booth were helpful and fun, even posed for a picture for us in their very cool cosplay outfits.

Speaking of cosplay. There were so many amazing costumes, and so many Harley Quinn’s and Deadpools. There was a Deadpool riding a Unicorn, so that was a interesting take on a classic. There were all different levels of of cosplay outfits, from the professional, with Gorilla Grodd played by Ruby Rinekso (who I didn’t want to stand near), and Captain Cold played by Jennifer Rose, to amateurs with hand made or store bought costumes. I may have seen the most impressive Ghost Rider, ever. His outfit was made with sweat, tears, and patience, and it paid off. He could not walk more than 10 ft without someone asking for his picture, and then asking him where he got it, or how he made it. Meanwhile an Astromech droid went driving by with his handler close to him. How can you not stop and stare when a 3 1/2 foot robot goes driving by?

I missed the cosplay contest this year because of a prior obligation, but in the past they have had some of the most spectacular outfits for both adult and children categories. Ruby hosted the last one I went to, and he was a riot. I was really sad to have missed him.

I do wish this event was a bit bigger, although the panels did have something for everyone, I felt like some of the events were repeated too much.  The Nerd Magician was featured a few times, and the RKO Army did a many performances. Different performances, but still performances.  That want stop me from going back next year, or the year after that, or … you get the idea!
