Providence Performing Arts Center
December 13, 2018
Less than five months ago, we saw a great performance from violin sensation Lindsey Stirling, as she toured with Evanescence. Now, she’s back in New England, bringing her Christmas-themed Wanderland Tour to the Providence Performing Arts Center.
Gone from the set are most of Lindsey’s hits, as she instead performs a set mostly made up of material from her album, Warmer in Winter, which has just seen a deluxe edition released. Mixed in with the holiday-themed songs that she has written herself, Stirling performed classic Christmas songs that span generations, from “Carol of the Bells” and “Let it Snow,” to “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “All I Want for Christmas is You.”
Before the show began, dancers were roaming through the crowd, taking pictures with fans. Two of these fans get dragged up on stage, and after a couple of feeble attempts at playing the violin, the female of the couple begins to perform with skill, before removing her wig and gown… It was Lindsey in disguise!
As always, Stirling’s performance was high energy, as she runs, dances and jumps around the stage, all while still playing the violin. It’s a skill that she has mastered like no other. While her violin playing always amazes, what may have been the most surprising point of the show was actually when she put the violin down, and sang a great rendition of “Santa Baby.”
Lindsey’s holiday tour is one that anybody can enjoy, as we evidenced by the crowd. Families and people of all ages had a great time tonight, enjoying a show that hopefully will prove to become a holiday tradition for years to come!
