Volbeat at The Paradise, Boston, MA – April 25, 2011
My first photopass!
I was very excited to get the chance to bring my SLR rig into a show and shoot a band I love. I got to the Paradise, got my pass and the details, and headed up towards the stage. I had never been to The Paradise before, but when I got there, I discovered that unlike a lot of the venues I’ve seen shows at, the barricade is a total of about one foot away from the stage. Throw in a couple security guards, and now there’s no space to shoot photos from! So I was only able to shoot from a space in front of the corner of the stage. But these are things you have to roll with, and despite that (and lights that left a lot to be desired), I’m happy with my shots. Hopefully this is the first of many times, and I’ll get to shoot Volbeat again in a larger, more well-lit venue!
Don’t think my small photographic gripes detract from my opinion of the show, however. The Paradise is a great, intimate venue for seeing a band in. This was also my first time seeing Volbeat play a headlining show, having seen them three times in 2009 opening for Metallica.
About a week before the show, it was announced that bass player Anders Kjølholm had to leave the tour for personal reasons. Josh Newton from The Damned Things/Everytime I Die filled in during his absence.
