Magic City Hippies in Boston – January 20, 2023

Miami funk rock band Magic City Hippies took over a sold out Paradise Rock Club on Friday night, joined by supporting act CAPYAC, as part of their 2023 Winter Tour. Fans flooded the iconic venue despite the rainy weather, ready for a funky evening to start off the weekend.

CAPYAC

First up was Los Angeles electronic group CAPYAC, bringing an unique blend of dance and noise music to unsuspecting concertgoers. The charismatic band created a heavily electronic sound that was abstract at times, and incorporated some interesting dancing on stage, leaving fans both intrigued and perplexed.

As CAPYAC’s set came to a close, the now fully packed room turned its attention towards the stage, anticipating MCH’s arrival. The atmosphere was laid back and almost tropical, in contrast with the cold winter outside the door. The lights went down and the band took the stage, kicking off with “Queen” and “Indiana”. The band’s funky sound and chill attitude were contagious, with sultry tracks like “Champagne On The Rider” making everyone slow dance in the room.

Magic City Hippies also gave a nod to some classic rock icons, with a groovy cover of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets”, as well as a surprising snippet of The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”, which blended in perfectly with the overall vibe of the set. The band’s energy was vibrant, and it was clear that they have a close connection, dancing amongst themselves as well as interacting closely with the crowd.

The evening came to a close with the smoothness of “Hush” and the sex appeal of “Body Like A Weapon”. Magic City Hippies created an atmosphere that felt like a poolside escape, the perfect remedy for the gloomy January blues. Make sure to catch the Magic City Hippies Winter Tour in a city near you.
