Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Providence – September 24 2025

The next generation of wizards lights up the stage at the Providence Performing Arts Center!

I grew up with Harry Potter, and I mean that literally. I’m not a Potterhead per se, but we’re the same age. As he was going through Hogwarts, I was in Muggle school. So now how cool is it that 25 years later, a play comes to Providence about the next generation of wizards, and I got to bring along my own little wizard.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child follows the story of Harry Potter’s son Albus befriending Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius at Hogwarts. There’s a ton of fan service for the true Potterheads, but the story stands on its own, leaning into themes of family, friendship, and good vs evil.

To be clear – this is not a musical. There are no big song-and-dance numbers, but the show is far more energetic and engaging than many actual musicals I’ve seen. My 13-year-old was on the edge of her seat the whole time and we both audibly gasped at the special effects more than once. The magic is world class, using smoke, lights, pyro, and projections to create mind-blowing effects. Equally so, there was some of the most enchanting choreography (OMG the way those wizard cloaks move!)

This is a must see show for anyone familiar with the Harry Potter universe. If you’re new, maybe give The Goblet of Fire a watch before you go. Tickets are available through October 4th at PPACRI.ORG/CURSEDCHILD
