Slash at Hampton Beach Casino in New Hampshire – May 8, 2015
Since releasing his self titled solo album in 2010, former Guns ‘n Roses guitar player Saul Hudson, better known as Slash, has been touring with Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy on vocals. After the first touring cycle, this group became known as Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and this past September, they released their second album as this group, World on Fire.
Unlocking the Truth
Unlocking the Truth is a trio of 13 & 14 year old boys from Brooklyn. In 2013, a video of their performance in Times Square went viral, and in 2014 they were signed to an album deal with Sony. They have yet to release an album, but there is a book about their story, as well as a documentary, Breaking a Monster about them, which was recently debuted at South by Southwest.
These guys are energetic, aggressive, and more skilled than some musicians two or three times their age. This band and their story are definitely worth checking out!
Slash
Everyone’s favorite top hat-wearing guitar player returns to Hampton Beach for the third time. Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators played a good mix of their two albums, Slash’s self-titled solo album, as well as some GNR favorites.
The band was in top form, with vocalist Myles Kennedy sounding great on their own tunes, as well as the Guns ‘n Roses hits.
Mid-way through the set, Kennedy took a break, and bass player Todd Kerns took over on lead vocals for a pair of songs; “Doctor Alibi” off of Slash’s self titled album, and for the first time this lineup is playing the classic Guns tune, “Welcome to the Jungle.” Kerns sounded great, and “Welcome to the Jungle” was one of the most well received songs of the night.
With the exception of “Slither,” at the end of the set, Velvet Revolver wasn’t really represented in the set. Slash obviously has a huge catalog of not just songs, but bands to pick a setlist from, so it’s no surprise that songs don’t make the cut, but with former Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland on tour and not playing any VR songs in his set, it’s sad to see an entire group’s catalog disappear.

Lack of VR songs aside, they put on an excellent show. For years, Slash has always said he’s been “in search of a singer,” and it looks like in Myles Kennedy he’s found somebody who he has great chemistry with. Hopefully they continue in this form for years to come!
