Global Citizen Festival
September 24, 2016
Thirty days from now, the Global Citizen Festival will take place in Central Park. The packed lineup this year includes Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer and Metallica. On top of that, there will be special appearances from Chris Martin (of Coldplay), Eddie Vedder (of Pearl Jam), Usher, Ellie Goulding, Yandel, and Yusuf/Cat Stevens. This event is hosted by Chelsea Handler, Deborra-Lee and Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Selma Hayak Pinault and Seth Meyers. Phew, that was a lot of names to get through! And did I mention that this event is free?
Now you’re probably wondering what sort of event the Global Citizen Festival is to be bringing together such a large and diverse lineup. Global Citizen is a community of people who want to learn and take action on the world’s biggest challenges, in a fight to end extreme poverty and inequality around the world. To become a part of the community, register at GlobalCitizen.org, and then you perform actions to earn points, which in turn can be spent on rewards, such as tickets to the festival. What sort of actions? Some of the actions available include signing a petition to increase education funding, tweeting a photo at the President of Senegal asking him to fund health and sanitation, signing a petition to tell the UK Secretary of State that it’s time to commit to a polio-free world, and many, many other great causes. Over the last five years, Global Citizens around the world have completed more than six million actions!
It’s fitting that such a great cause has such a great lineup for their show. By doing your part in making a difference, you can find yourself at the show!
