Slayer is currently out on the first leg of their FINAL tour. They are going to be hanging it up after releasing 12 albums, while thrashing around the world for 35 years.

As soon as the lights go out, we know we’re in for a big show. A curtain surrounds the stage, but behind the curtain, we can see massive flames igniting, fireballs shooting up, iron SLAYER logos burning in flames, and a massive backdrop featuring the art from their latest album, Repentless. After a couple minutes of getting us excited, the curtains drop, and Slayer hits the stage.

Slayer frontman Tom Araya

Kicking it off with the title track of Repentless, the band shows that just because they are retiring, doesn’t mean they have slowed down. Their riffs are just as fast and as powerful as ever. The sound coming through the PA is bone crushing. Bass player & vocalist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Gary Holt, and drummer Paul Bostaph aren’t holding anything back.

The crowd is loving it, as well. How could they not? From the moment you entered the venue in the afternoon, you couldn’t go more than five minutes without hearing somebody yell “SLAYERRRRR!!!!” This was a crowd primed and ready for this show, and Slayer delivered on all fronts.

Knowing how most final tours go, I doubt this will be their final New England show. I expect this tour to last two to three years, so if you missed out, you just may get lucky enough to see them one more time before they go!
