Snail Mail at Royale Boston – April 8, 2022

Debuting their second album, Valentine, Maryland-based band Snail Mail stole our hearts as they played Royale in Boston on Friday April 8th, 2022. Valentine, which was released in November 2021, has received praise and recognition for many of the songs that adorn this album, such as “Valentine”, “Madonna”, and “Automate”. Their lead vocalist, Lindsey Jordan, can be recognized by her raw vocals and the connection she made effortlessly with the crowd on that night.

The sold-out show began to fill up as the opening band, Joy Again – an Indie-Pop/Rock band from Philadelphia – jammed out with the audience upon first song. The best way to describe the tone? Funky, but like in a really good way. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Sachi DiSerafino, had fans in the crowd vibing along with the unpredictable band as they played songs throughout the night such as “Couldn’t”, “Mistakes” and a cover of “My Own Worst Enemy” by Lit.

As Joy Again phased out, red lights set the mood for Snail Mail to finally grace the stage with their presence. Opening the night with their hit song, “Valentine”, the crowd immediately cheered and sung along with her. Jordan’s presence exuded something unique- she connected with the crowd and was in awe of the energy that Boston showed that night. Jordan, despite the vocal surgery she had undergone the last year, effortlessly filled the night with other tunes such as “Ben Franklin”, “Glory” and a cover of The Smashing Pumpkin’s song “Tonight, Tonight”. Fans were truly in for a treat as she played a variety of songs from both of their albums, including the “Habit” EP.
