Aly & AJ at The Masquerade in Atlanta – May 16, 2022
The Brummies
The Brummies are an alternative rock collective based out of Birmingham, Alabama, consisting of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, and drummer Trevor Davis.
The band’s set featured multiple songs showcasing The Brummies melodic, genre-blending sound, evoking aspects of psych-rock, indie, and pop. Their performance was a crowd pleaser that drew resounding cheers, highlighted by a spectacular trumpet solo and a moving song dedication to a member of the crowd. They were the perfect openers for Aly & AJ.
Aly & AJ
Aly & AJ are a sister duo consisting of Alyson and Amanda Joy Michalka. Their rise to fame began in the early 2000’s as child actors with appearances across numerous titles in film and television. Musically, the Michalka sisters found success in 2005 with the release of their debut studio album, Into the Rush, which charted on the Billboard 200 for 40 weeks. The sisters have been a force in the world of music and entertainment ever since.
The duo’s performance was highly anticipated as it was one of their earliest performances since the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the band not tour for nearly 2 years. When the sisters walked onto the stage, the crowd erupted in raucous cheers, and seemingly everyone sang along as they broke into their opening song, “Pretty Places.”
Halfway through the show, the duo took a moment to bring awareness to LGBTQ+ youth, delivering a message of inclusiveness that highlighted the family-like atmosphere the sisters brought to the show, deepening their connection with an already enamored crowd.
During the final – and most anticipated – song, the crowd screamed along to the band’s biggest hit, “Potential Breakup Song,” capping a memorable performance by the duo, and sending the crowd home in high spirits.
