Volbeat & Five Finger Death Punch
Tsongas Center
September 26, 2014

Volbeat and Five Finger Death Punch are on a co-headlining trek across the US. Support acts on the tour are Nothing More and Hellyeah. (check out our coverage on those bands here!)

Volbeat

Tonight was my 14th time seeing Volbeat, and I must say that I’ve seen quite an improvement in their shows over the last two years. Singer Michael Poulsen nails his parts, where in prior years, some of them were occasionally a bit of a stretch.

The set was a little heavy on the new album, but that’s to be expected, I suppose. They have so many great songs now, there’s always going to be something left off of the set.One of the things I always take away from a Volbeat show is how much fun the band has. Bass player Anders Kjolholm is one of my favorite performers to watch… There’s an aura of silliness to him that I get a big kick out of. Guitar player Rob Caggiano also seems happier than he ever did performing with Anthrax, and frequently makes what he refers to as his “Muppet face.”

During “Pool of Booze, Booze, Booza,” they brought all the little kids from the crowd on stage to rock out with them. But since there were kids around, they changed the words from “Pool of Booze” to “Pool of Chocolate.” It was cute, and the kids seemed to have a blast!
