Like a Storm

New Zealand’s Like a Storm are considered pioneers of “didgeridoo metal,” for including the traditional Australian instrument in several of their songs. These guys are a powerful, rocking band, who have a lot of fun doing what they do. Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” was not a song I expected to be hearing tonight, but they did a great version of it, as well as a solid cover of AC/DC’s “T.N.T.”

The didgeridoo made an appearance in several songs, including their final song, the recent hit “Love the Way You Hate Me,” off of 2015’s Awaken The Fire

Steel Panther

Steel Panther are one of the most fun, unique party bands there is. They take all the 80’s hair band clichés and turn them up to 11, from the raunchy lyrics to the colorful spandex.

I’d only ever seen them opening for other bands previously, and other bands’ audiences don’t always know how to react to them. A Steel Panther crowd, on the other hand, loves every second of it. Dozens of audience members dressed in their best 80’s outfits, many with wigs to complete them.

Not only did their show include a guitar solo, but also a hair solo, where singer Michael Starr and guitar player Satchel blasted bass player Lexxi Foxx with leaf blowers, letting his long hair flow.

It would be hard to find a show more fun and entertaining than Steel Panther. They’re constantly talking to the crowd, making jokes, and inviting girls up on stage. In the later half of the show, they brought things down and played a handful of acoustic songs.
