ISSUES
July 13, 2016
Excuse my terrible pun:
I have no ISSUES with the next band I am about to tell you about.
Their name is ISSUES, and they are a metalcore band hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. This band definitely puts the HOT in Hotlanta! Tyler Carter formed the band in 2012 with some former members of his previous project, Woe Is Me. The musicians have changed from the beginning, with some of the members of Woe Is Me leaving for various reasons. The band now consists of clean vocalist Tyler Carter, unclean vocalist Michael Bohn, bassist Skyler Acord, guitarist AJ Rebollo, and percussionist Josh Manuel.
I ended up putting a playlist of their music and just letting it run on shuffle. I was really impressed with how different each song sounded. They all had the same elements. A great guitar riff, good beat, great vocals and great screaming. Each one had a different riff, different beat, different vocal. At times I would stop and check to make sure I was still listening to the same band. The songs are just that drastically different sounding. Although I do agree with the metalcore title, I also feel like they could easy belong in the pop-punk genre. I listened to their latest album, “Headspace” a few times. For as many hard hitting chords and guttural yells, there were catchy chords and choruses.
I really loved “Coma”. They have a great mix between the clean and unclean vocals on this track. All the qualities of metalcore are present, from the heavy guitar riff metal sound, to the punk rock -throw you in a mosh pit rage. Tyler Carters clean voice gives it the pop edge that I really like.
I know I am really going to enjoy hearing this band tomorrow. Take a listen below and let me know if you have any ISSUES with any of my above statements!
