Motionless in White

My confusion and lack of a map lead me to the Monster Energy North Stage. Motionless In White was up next. I was familiar with the name and I was pretty sure they wore some sort of costumes that might be fun to shoot.

I wasn’t too far off.

Motionless In White is a gothic metal/metal core band. They started in 2005 out of Scranton, Pa. The band is currently signed under Roadrunner records with an amazing line up. Chris “Motionless” Cerulli (lead vocals),Ryan Sitkowski (lead guitar), Ricky “Horror” Olson (rhythm guitar), Devin “Ghost” Sola (bass), Vinny Mauro (drums), and my personal favorite, Josh Balz (keyboards)

When they walked on stage, no one was wearing any white. Apparently the name of the band comes from the Eighteen Visions song, “Motionless And White”. A song about a person trying to help someone break their heavy drug habit. That was very different than the white outfits I thought they would be wearing, but what a great message!

The music was great. It was so loud that it made my chest hurt when I was up front. All their songs were new to me, and a couple of them really stuck in my head. I spent some time listening to their music after the event, and fell in love with a few songs. One in particular, “Reincarnate”, was played that day. The song is very heavy, and has a mix of screaming and clean vocals. I was, and still am, really impressed with Chris Cerulli’s vocal range. He does both vocals, and he sounds like 2 different people. Had I not seen him sing, I would have assumed I missed a singer somewhere.

We determined that they weren’t wearing white, and they weren’t wearing “costumes”, but they looked very impressive. The band was, for the most part, covered in paint, tattoos and black. It took me a few songs in to realize that their arms and necks had paint on them. It created a really cool effect. Especially on Ryan Sitkowski who had black and red paint splotched on his neck like camouflage. Josh Balz had on a really great hood/neck paint/ demon eyes ensemble.

I was really impressed with this band. They sounded great and looked great. If they come around your area, put yourself in motion and go check them out!
