Avenged Sevenfold at TD Garden – October 9, 2013
Avenged Sevenfold is currently out on their Hail to the King tour, in support of the album by the same name. Joining them on this tour are Deftones, and one of my personal favorites, Ghost B.C.
The TD Garden has some policies that make it very tough for one person to both photograph and review a show. After photographing your three or four songs, you have to exit the arena. If you wish to re-enter, you need to stash your camera somewhere (out of luck if you took the T in), and come in through the main entrance. Of course you can only enter once with a ticket, so if you wish to review all bands, you would need multiple tickets. So unfortunately, for this show, I can only review the bands based off of the three or four songs I saw each band perform.
Ghost B.C.
It’s no secret that I love Ghost, having shot them earlier this year in Hartford and in Boston. It was great to see them performing on a large stage. One of my favorite things about Ghost is their bass player and his tone, and on the PA at the Garden, he – and in turn, the entire band – sounded amazing. They played a short but sweet set, and while they rocked it, they definitely were unknown by most of the crowd. There were a handful of diehard fans I noticed that knew every word, but it appeared most of the audience was unsure of what exactly they were seeing. Hopefully a few of them were converted as I was the first time I saw them.

The Deftones have never been one of my favorite bands, but what they do, they do well, and the crowd was definitely into them tonight.

Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold’s new album, Hail to the King, came out in late August, and became their second Number 1 album. While the guys in Machine Head might not be the biggest fans of it, it obviously works for them. Avenged Sevenfold has a very die hard following, and I was surprised, for a hard rock/metal band, how high the ratio of female to male fans was. When the lights went out just before the band came on, the crowd was high pitched and deafening.
They had a great stage show, with plenty of pyro. In fact, at one point, some large explosions erupted, and a piece of the stage caught on fire. Their bass player walked over to try and step it out, and it kept burning! Eventually a tech came over and smothered the flames.
