Volbeat at Xfinity Center – August 14, 2025

Volbeat came to Massachusetts on “The Greatest World Tour.” Though it turned into a stormy night, they still managed to rock the venue, with support from The Ghost Inside, and Halestorm.

The Ghost Inside

The Ghost Inside was an interesting choice for this bill, as their metalcore style is much heavier vocally than anything Volbeat or Halestorm are doing. The crowd enjoyed their quick, but powerful set, though. Basically as soon as they finished performing, a shelter in place order was put into effect. Fans proceeded to spend 90 minutes huddled under the pavilion, hiding from lightning in the area.

Halestorm

As the storm cleared, another storm took the stage – Halestorm. In the scramble to get the show going, they wrote out a truncated setlist on paper plates. Though their performance was brief – maybe 40 minutes long – Lzzy was still filled with fire, and the band got the crowd roaring. They mostly played songs off their new album, Everest, but a couple of fan favorites like “Miss the Misery” and “Freak Like Me” got even casual fans excited.

Volbeat

Volbeat hit the stage about 45 minutes behind schedule, opening up with “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown.” Despite all the delays, the band managed to play most of their set – only cutting “A Warrior’s Call” from it. Fan favorites like “Sad Man’s Tongue” and “Seal the Deal” were certainly highlights of the night. The band also played a few tracks off their new album, God of Angels Trust, like “Demonic Depression,” and “In the Barn of the Goat Giving Birth to Satan’s Spawn in a Dying World of Doom.” After introducing the title to that latter song, Michael said “Don’t believe any of that, it’s just one big horror movie. Volbeat is not promoting any religion, we believe in mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers and good ice cream.” Good words to live by.

For the final finale of the set, the band brought all the children in the crowd up onto the stage, as they performed “Still Counting.” They modified the lyrics to be a little more friendly, singing “Counting all the youngsters in the room…”

The first band we ever covered on the site was Volbeat, back in 2011. That was at a 900 seat club in Boston, while tonight was their first time headlining the 20,000 capacity Xfinity Center. Though they may not have sold the venue out, It’s amazing to see the success this band has had. They are certainly a unique band, with an sound that’s a bit of an acquired taste. When I first saw them 15 years ago, I probably would not have predicted this level of success for them, bringing their sound from little old Denmark to audiences around the world. Their performance tonight shows that they are forced to be reckoned with!
