Black Label Society at Mohegan Sun – April 2, 2026

The iconic guitar player Zakk Wylde rolled into Mohegan Sun, as his band Black Label Society headlined the arena. That wouldn’t be his only appearance of the night, as the triple Bill tonight turned out to be a real family affair.

Dark Chapel

Kicking things off were Dark Chapel. Man is fronted by Dario Lorina, who is also the second guitar player in Black Label Society. They started off with riffs that were as heavy as I’d expect from somebody in BLS, but I was surprised at how clean Dario‘s vocals were. They powered through a 30 minute set that was a great warm-up for the night.

Zakk Sabbath

Next up on the bill was Zakk Sabbath. Zakk Wylde has had this Black Sabbath cover band as a side project for several years now, but tonight he pulled double duty, opening for himself. He is usually accompanied by Blasko on bass and Joey Castillo on drums, but they’re both occupied with other bands currently, so for this tour the entire Zakk Sabbath lineup is made up of Black Label Society members, with JD DeServio and Jeff Fabb both also pulling double duty tonight.

They kicked off their set with the iconic “Children of the Grave,” with its timeless riff echoing through the arena. While they played for 40 minutes, they only played five songs, because their jams were so long. JD played a suitably nasty bass solo before they kicked into “NIB.” Their set finished with “War Pigs,” of which during the climax Zakk went out onto the floor to play his guitar solo in the middle of the pit.

Black Label Society

A quick set change and a kilt change later, Zakk, JD, Jeff, and Dario emerge on stage as Black Label Society. Opening up with “Funeral Bell,” Zakk’s prowess as a guitar player and enthusiasm as a front man are unmatched. They then went into “Name in Blood,” one of the latest singles off of the twelfth BLS album, Engines of Demolition, released last week. Several songs into the set, Zakk ripped into his guitar solo from “No More Tears,” one his most iconic contributions to Ozzy Osbourne’s catalog. Ozzy was well represented throughout the night, with BLS later performing their new song, “Ozzy’s Song,” as a tribute to him.

Some other highlights of the show included Zakk sitting behind the piano for “In This River,” which paid tribute to brothers Dime and Vinnie Paul Abbott, as well as classic BLS songs, like “Fire it Up,” and their grand finale, “Stillborn.” Zakk continues to wave the heavy metal flag, and will long be keeping the memory of his fallen brothers alive in his performances.
