Dragonforce

British power metal titans Dragonforce recently released their first greatest hits album, Killer Elite: The Hits, The Highs, The Vids. Full of favorites like “Valley of the Damned,” “Fury of the Storm” and of course the Guitar Hero hit that helped make the band a household name, “Through the Fire and Flames.”
All of these hits were played tonight at Mohegan Sun, as the band powered through a 90 minute show. Every song they played is on the new album, so you know they’re all hits. It was great to hear them play one of my personal favorites, “My Spirit Will Go On,” which I haven’t seen them perform in a decade. Other highlights of the set were the Castlevania inspired “Symphony of the Night,” and drummer Gee Anzalone’s drum solo, which included him beat-boxing and tapping on Sam’s guitar. The biggest reaction of the night of course was to the previously mentioned “Through the Fire and Flames.”
The band was fast and furious, as to be expected. While you can tell the band is all having fun, and not taking themselves too seriously, I was impressed by how on-point the solos were, being played nearly the same as the album versions.
It had been about five years since I’d seen a Dragonforce show, and with as much fun as I had tonight, I will be sure to see them again the next time they come around!
