Connecticut’s Terrific Comic Con, known as TerrifiCon is already advertising its dates for next year. August 17 – 19 of 2008, you can head to Mohegan Sun for a weekend full of vendors, panels, cosplay and chaos.

I attended Terificon this past August, and I was a bit disappointed.  There was orderly line to scan in and out of the venue. Considering I went after opening on the Sunday, I expected the crowds to be lighter.

Getting to the vendor floor was nearly impossible, trying to slice through clusters of people, while trying not to ruin cosplay photo shoots. The vendor floor itself was cramped and claustrophobic. I found it hard to stop and look at booths without being bumped or pushed out of the way.

The staff was nice, but not knowledgeable. I asked a few people how to get to the costume contest with different directions and varying degrees of confusion on how to get to it. Simply, I just had to exit the main room, take a left and follow to the cabaret.

The cosplay contest was the highlight of my day. It was hosted by cosplay expert Ruby Rinekso, and had three professional cosplay judges.  The costumes ranged from professional grade to “I bought this on Amazon”, but all were treated with the same amount of respect from the audience and judges alike.

Aside from it not being my favorite con ever, it certainly wasn’t the worst and I would give it a try again next year. There’s a Krispy Kreme in the building after all !
