Legendary rock band KISS is touring the U.S. on their Freedom to Rock tour. Joining them as support is the supergroup The Dead Daisies.
You wanted the best, and you got it!
The Dead Daisies
The Dead Daisies is a supergroup that was co-founded by Australian business man David Lowy. Joining him is former Motley Crue singer John Corabi, Thin Lizzy/Black Star Rider bass player Marco Mendoza, former Whitesnake and Dio guitar player Doug Aldrich, and former Whitesnake, Billy Idol and Foreigner drummer Brian Tichy. Wow, what a lineup!
With their credentials, it’s no surprise that this group plays straight up rock and roll. I hadn’t heard their material before the show, but it is solid, and I definitely plan to check the album out. In addition to their own songs, they had a few rocking covers in the set, such as “Fortunate Son” and “Helter Skelter.”

KISS
The hottest band in the world… KISS! Right off the bat, singer Paul Stanley let the crowd know this was the 9th time KISS has played in Worcester, though it was their first time since 1996!
Tonight was everything you wanted in a KISS show, from the moment the curtain dropped during “Detroit Rock City” until the final piece of confetti fell during “Rock and Roll All Nite.”
Pyrotechnics, lasers, pyro, flying band members, pyro, confetti, pyro, blood, as well as some explosions and pyro all brought the signature KISS concert experience. Of course a KISS show isn’t just about the show, we’re here for some great music. All of their classic albums were well represented in the set, with the only song written after 1990 being the title track of 1999’s Psycho Circus. The deepest cut of the night was “Flaming Youth” off of Destroyer.
KISS continues to amaze me with how powerful they sound after all these years. Paul’s vocals were in top form, and the rest of the band all sounded great on the various songs on which they sang leads. After his bass solo, Gene Simmons flew to the rafters to play “God of Thunder.” After singing “Shock Me,” Tommy Thayer played a ripping guitar solo, which included launching fireworks from his guitar. At the end of “Black Diamond,” Eric Singer’s drum riser rose through the air.
During their encore, they recognized some local military veterans on stage, received the Key to the City from Worcester mayor Joseph Petty, and played a rocking version of “The Star Spangled Banner,” celebrating our freedom to rock.
