ComiCONN
“A Show for the Fans by the Fans!”

Foxwoods Resort Casino
June 10 & 11, 2017

ComiCONN “A Show for the Fans by the Fans!” celebrated it’s 8th anniversary with a new venue, at the amazing Foxwoods Resort Casino. ComiCONN “A Show for the Fans by the Fans!” is put on by Altered Reality Entertainment, who also put on Rhode Island Comic Con, which we’ve attended for the last four years, and TerrorCon, which we saw in Providence in February. How does this show stack up?

Werewolf Wolverine

There were plenty of great guests to be found. A “Sons of Anarchy” reunion (including Ron Perlman, aka Hellboy), Jason David Frank (the Green Ranger) and Kevin Sussman from “The Big Bang Theory” are just a few of the actors. There were wrestling legends like Ric Flair, Scott Hall and Amy Dumas (Lita). Of course no comic convention is complete with out the great artists and writers who make these stories happen.

The cosplay was top notch, on par with any of the other conventions we’ve attended. Any of your favorite comic book characters were represented, with costumes from any level of talent on display. The Cosplay Contest panel was a blast, as always. Some of these costumes were incredible detailed, while some were simple, yet still amazing in their own way. We saw a family that was all dressed as Super Mario characters who really stole our hearts!

ConnLUG’s Lego City

We found the Kids Con area to be one of the best we’ve seen at a con. Often times, it’s a table with a couple of worksheets, and nobody around. There was a whole dedicated area for kids this time. ConnLUG, the Lego Enthusiasts of Connecticut, had an amazing Lego city setup, and had a table with lego pieces for kids to play with. There were multiple long tables with coloring pages, worksheets, and masks to design on them. Adam Parisi, “The Magic of Adam”, had a table setup, and as he told jokes through the day, he would make free balloon animals for anybody. These weren’t your standard puppy dog balloons, but he was creating ninjas, mermaids, even Spider-man! At one point he walked by wearing a Ghostbusters Proton Pack made from balloons! We found him super entertaining, and hope to see him at a convention in the future!

All in all, ComiCONN “A Show for the Fans by the Fans!” was a great weekend! The panels were entertaining, the celebrities all very friendly and engaging with their fans, and of course we have to mention all the amazing vendors on the show floor. Foxwoods Resort Casino felt like the perfect place to hold an event like this, and we look forward to seeing the show next year!
