Halestorm and I Prevail in Boston – July 16, 2024

Halestorm and I Prevail are tearing up the US on a co-headlining tour this summer. The pair brought the tour to the Boston Seaport, with a sold out show at the Leader Bank Pavilion. Joining them on the bill are Hollywood Undead and Fit for a King.

Hollywood Undead

The powerful lineup starts early, so unfortunately I missed Fit for King, and my night started off with the always entertaining Hollywood Undead. This rap/rock group is really one of a kind, with five guys in the band who seamlessly switch between singing, rapping, playing guitar, playing bass, playing keyboards – you never know who is going to be doing which part. They opened up with their catchy hit, “California Dreaming.” A highlight for me was “Riot,” as well as the final song of the set, “Undead.” The band has so many great songs, that it was a bit of a shame to see them play a short set, but they rocked it from start to finish.

Halestorm

The headliners have been trading off who closes out the show each night, so up next tonight was Halestorm. Frontwoman Lzzy Hale comes to the front of the stage and shows off her vocal prowess, a cappella singing “Raise Your Horns” to the crowd. The band then kicked off into two of their biggest hits, “I Miss the Misery,” and “Love Bites.” Following up immediately with “I Get Off,” the band showed they were not kidding around tonight.

The set included other smash songs like “Apocalyptic” and “Back from the Dead.” Drummer Arejay Hale put on a great drum solo to entertain the crowd, and at one point in all four members came to the front of the stage with a synchronized drum performance. Close with “The Steeple,” singing “This is my church, you are my people.” After nearly 20 years on the scene, Halestorm seems to be unstoppable, and Lzzy Hale’s power and charisma is cementing her as a modern day rock icon.

I Prevail

I Prevail hit the scene nearly 10 years ago, and we caught what I believe was their first national tour in Spring of 2015, when they open for Amaranthe. We’ve covered them many times over the past decade, and I’ve been very impressed to follow their rise. After an intro about this all being a dream, and how all dreams have monsters at the end, the band kicked into “There’s Fear in Letting Go.” Next they played “Body Bag,” which proved to be a powerful song for the audience.

A few songs into the set, one of the band’s frontmen, Eric Vanlerberghe, addressed the crowd, and discussed how they’ve been around nearly a decade, and how they first broke out with a Taylor Swift cover. He said they don’t really like playing it now, but if the audience wanted them to they would. The crowd cheered, and they crushed their cover of “Blank Space.” They added lots of heavy groove parts to the song, to really put their own spin on it.

Before the tour began, I Prevail and Halestorm released a song together, called “can u see me in the dark?” At this point in the show, the Halestorm logo started flashing on the screen, and Lzzy Hale returned to the stage to sing it with the band. The audience definitely seem excited to get the chance to see the artists perform together.

The band didn’t play anything off of their debut album, Lifelines, and featured heavily on 2022’s TRUE POWER album, with “Bad Things” being a highlight. The band brought it all to close with a one-two combo of “Bow Down” and “Gasoline.” Erik, Brian, and the rest of I prevail, have proven themselves time and time again to be a worthy headliner.
